Effective Date: September 3, 2021

I. POLICY PURPOSE

This policy is intended to reflect the commitment of The American University of Science ("AUS", "University", "university") to the principles, goals, and ideals by ensuring AUS’s standards of academic assessment.

II. POLICY APPLICABILITY

The policy applies to all students.

III. POLICY STATEMENT

All students who enroll in our programs must meet the academic requirements and achieve the learning outcomes specified in the course syllabus and program handbook. Failure to comply with this policy may result in academic penalties, including but not limited to academic caution, suspension, or expulsion from the program.

A. Assessment Resubmission

If a student is assessed as 'not yet competent,' they will be given a chance to resubmit the assessment by invitation only. The official AUS Intelligent Learning Management System called Nebula is used for this purpose, and students must resubmit within two weeks of receiving feedback.

It is important to note that only one resubmission is allowed per assessment. Upon receiving feedback, students will receive written feedback on their original assessment, outlining the reasons for not meeting the required standards and what needs to be addressed to achieve competency.

B. Extenuating Circumstances

If there are extenuating circumstances, students must contact the academic affairs staff. Due dates may be negotiated accordingly, but it is up to the academic affairs staff to make the final decision.

C. Academic Caution

If a student fails to submit an assessment resubmission by the due date, they will receive an academic caution, and the student must liaise with the academic affairs staff. If a student is required to resubmit a second time, they will be given an academic caution.

D. Responsibility

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they meet the academic requirements for assessments and achieve competency in all learning outcomes.
