I. POLICY RATIONALE


The American University of Science (AUS) promotes an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. AUS is committed to supporting equality of education and employment opportunities by promoting diversity and creating an environment free from discrimination. Whether one is a student, faculty, or staff member at AUS, they participate in a community that values individual performance over personal beliefs, appearance, preferences (including sexual or affectional orientation), or any other happenstance of birth. AUS's history of diversity and inclusion encourages everyone to support an inclusive university that is diverse in every aspect, making it an excellent place to work, study, teach, research, and serve.


II. POLICY APPLICABILITY


This policy applies to all individuals, including staff, students, and the general public, and is a fundamental aspect of the commitment towards establishing a supportive and harmonious community.


III. POLICY PURPOSE


This policy aims to foster a culture that celebrates individual differences and ensures equal opportunities for all AUS community members. No person shall be denied admission to any educational program or activity or be denied employment on the basis of any legally prohibited discrimination involving, but not limited to, such factors as race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, marital status, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, or protected veteran status. AUS is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and institution.


IV. POLICY STATEMENT


A. Commitment to Equality


1. AUS is deeply committed to upholding the values of fairness and respect for all individuals. The organization takes an active role in combating discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity and fairness, with a strong focus on creating an inclusive environment that supports diversity among staff, students, and visitors. AUS takes great pride in its efforts to ensure that everyone, regardless of their protected characteristics, is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. These protected characteristics are closely monitored to ensure that no form of discrimination is tolerated. AUS is dedicated to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to creating a setting where everyone feels welcome and valued.


2. At AUS, the commitment to promoting equality is evident in our efforts to identify and remove barriers that may hinder individuals from participating fully in our university community. The university aims to provide the necessary support to empower each individual to achieve their highest potential while taking into account the impact of our policies and practices on diverse groups. The university strives to create an inclusive environment that values diversity and fosters respect for all members of the community.


3. AUS is committed to conducting periodic assessments of policies and practices to identify and rectify potential instances of unfairness or inequality. These evaluations allow for the further strengthening of the pledge toward promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. By continuously reviewing and analyzing policies, AUS can ensure that they align with the principles and values of the institution and effectively support efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace.


B. Principles


1. Non-Discrimination: AUS prohibits all forms of discrimination, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, and any other characteristics protected by applicable laws. Discrimination in any aspect of the institution's operations, such as recruitment, employment, student admissions, promotions, and access to facilities, will not be tolerated.


2. Equal Opportunities: AUS is committed to providing equal opportunities for all individuals. AUS ensures that all decisions regarding recruitment, training, development, promotions, and other aspects of employment and education are based on merit, qualifications, and abilities.

Prevention of Harassment and Bullying: Harassment and bullying, in any form, are strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to verbal, physical, or written abuse, and behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.


4. Training and Awareness: AUS provides regular training and awareness programs to all members of our institution to promote understanding and appreciation of diversity and to emphasize the importance of inclusion and equity.


C. Policy Procedures


1. Reporting Mechanisms: AUS encourages the reporting of any incidents of discrimination, harassment, or other concerns. We ensure that individuals who report such incidents will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality. Retaliation against anyone who raises a genuine concern is strictly prohibited.


2. Review and Improvement: this policy is reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with legal requirements and best practices. AUS is committed to continuously improving the initiatives concerning this policy.


D. Roles and Responsibilities


All leaders, including management, faculty, and administrative staff, are responsible for upholding and promoting this policy. They are expected to lead by example and actively contribute to creating an inclusive and diverse culture.
