INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES

Institutional Objectives of The American University of Science

In accordance with its foundational ethos and in fulfillment of its charter, The American University of Science (AUS) establishes its Institutional Objectives. These objectives are meticulously crafted to reflect the institution's commitment to integrating rigorous scientific inquiry with the profound ethical and spiritual principles of the Catholic faith, thereby serving the greater good and advancing the frontiers of human wisdom.

Objective 1: Enhancement of Academic Rigor and Innovation

AUS is committed to fostering an academic environment characterized by its rigor, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence. This involves a commitment to the continuous development and assessment of academic programs to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and relevance. Furthermore, AUS aims to integrate emerging technologies and innovative teaching methodologies across all disciplines, promoting a culture of critical inquiry, creativity, and lifelong learning among its community.

Objective 2: Fostering Spiritual Growth and Ethical Development

AUS recognizes the integral role of spiritual growth and ethical development in forming well-rounded individuals. To this end, the university is dedicated to providing comprehensive programs that support the spiritual well-being of its community, grounded in Catholic tradition. Concurrently, AUS shall develop and implement a robust ethics curriculum across all programs, designed to instill principles of moral reasoning, compassion, and integrity, ensuring that graduates are prepared to lead ethically in their professional and personal lives.

Objective 3: Promoting Global Responsibility and Engagement

Acknowledging the interconnectedness of global societies, AUS pledges to cultivate an academic and institutional culture that prioritizes global engagement and responsibility. This entails the establishment of strategic international partnerships focused on collaborative research, cultural exchange, and service projects aimed at addressing global challenges. Through these initiatives, AUS aspires to contribute to international development and foster a spirit of global citizenship among its students and faculty.

Objective 4: Advancing Diversity and Inclusivity

Diversity and inclusivity are fundamental to the mission of AUS. The university commits to implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance diversity within its community—encompassing students, faculty, and staff—and to create an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates differences. This objective encompasses initiatives aimed at recruitment, retention, and support programs that facilitate access and equity for all members of the university community.

Objective 5: Ensuring Institutional Viability and Sustainability

The long-term viability and sustainability of AUS are paramount to achieving its mission and objectives. This requires a strategic approach to resource management, encompassing fiscal responsibility, environmental stewardship, and the development of sustainable funding models. AUS will engage in continuous strategic planning processes to ensure that it remains adaptable and resilient in the face of changing economic, environmental, and societal conditions.

Governance and Continuous Improvement Process

The governance structure of AUS, particularly its Board of Governors, is charged with the oversight of these Institutional Objectives. A structured process for regular review and ratification of these objectives is established to ensure their relevance and alignment with the university’s strategic vision. The last comprehensive review was conducted on August 3, 2023, with formal approval granted on September 3, 2023.

The articulation of these Institutional Objectives signifies AUS’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, ethical leadership, and the pursuit of knowledge, guided by the values of the Catholic faith.
